1.0 Purpose and Functions of Various Network Devices such as Routers, Switches, Bridges and Hubs

1.2 Select the components required to meet a given network specification

The components necessary to meet a given specification will be determined by a number of factors.

The design of the network is a primary factor in deciding which components or how many of each type will be required. A centralized network, or one where all of the network's resources are positioned in a location that is easily accessed will meet different requirements than that of a distributed network.

The media that is used to interconnect the individual devices in the network, such as optical fibre, Ethernet, Wireless LAN, or Power line communication will also vary according to the topologies and technologies implemented in constructing the network.
